Marshall Chapman - The Tall Girl Skinny

MAY 2010

Greetings from water-soaked Nashville!

Marshall Chapman - Tall Girl Skinny May 2010 - Nashvllle FloodWhat a month it’s been!

For two days (May 1 & 2), Nashville experienced record-shattering rainfalls that resulted in what’s now being called the Great Flood of 2010. Damage is estimated at $1.56 billion.

Click here to see how you can help with ongoing recovery.

Big Lonesome: Thanks to everyone who voted on the cover for my new CD! As it turned out, photo #3 (see below) was everyone’s favorite.

Danny Flowers and Marshall

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Loveless Barn April 21 for Music City Roots! The popular radio show, which airs live on WSM, raised $4180 for the Nature Conservancy. What a great way to spend an evening! Raise money for a worthy cause while rocking out with friends Danny Flowers, Minton Sparks, Tommy Womack, Holly & Barry Tashian, and newcomer David Jacobs-Strain.

I’ve got a one-way ticket to Mexico June 5 for a much needed break. If the June TGS fails to arrive a month from now, send a seach party!

Adios por ahora,

Marshall Chapman (signature)

P.S. Still no word from Governor Bredesen regarding Gaile Owens. We encourage you to visit to sign the petition and/or write the governor. The petition now has 7422 signatures. Let’s make it 10,000!

Big Lonesome

Big Lonesome is now mixed and ready for mastering. This album will be a tribute to my friend Tim Krekel. Before he got sick, Tim and I were planning to record a duet album. A cut from that project is included, along with the last song we ever wrote. And wait ’til you hear Jason Krekel singing his dad’s part on “Sick of Myself.” Wow.

Who was that mystery man?

Marshall Chapman - Tall Girl Skinny May 2010 - Allen Toussaint

Allen Toussaint

Guesses to last month’s “Name that Hand” contest ranged from Aaron Neville to Buckwheat Zydeco and from Cliften Chenier to Dr. John. So who was it that stopped by Marshall’s table that night in NYC? Why, Allen Toussaint, of course!

Congratulations to Joni Wheeler, Vicki Hardy, and David Miller for correctly identifying “the man behind the hand”!

Allen Toussaint is mostly known as an arranger, producer, and songwriter. But he’s also a great recording artist in his own right. Click here to hear him sing his songs “Brickyard Blues” and “Southern Nights.”
