Marshall Chapman - Tall Girl Skinny - August 2010

Hot and Humid!

That’s about all there is to report from Nashville. Other than we’ve been working like beavers getting Big Lonesome (my new CD) ready for fall release! Press copies were mailed Saturday with comments and blurbs from friends William Gay, Matraca Berg, Kris Kristofferson, and Todd Snider. We encourage you to pre-order by clicking here. Pre-orders will be shipped five days before October 26 release date.

Since last time, I’ve written a couple of new songs with The Wrights – Shannon and husband Adam. Their latest CD is called Red and Yellow, Blue and Green, and I think everyone in the world should buy it. (which you can, by clicking here.) Great songs, Everly Brothers-tight harmonies, superb musicianship … it’s all there.

This just in!

On Sunday, September 5, I’m playing Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta with longtime friend Rodney Crowell. Show starts at 8 pm. Earlier that afternoon (also at Eddie’s), I’ll be doing a reading from my new book (They Came to Nashville).

Meanwhile, on August 21, Big Al Anderson, Gary Nicholson, and I will join forces for a “Bluebird on the Mountain” at the Dyer Observatory just south of Nashville. And tonight I’m at the Bluebird with Lari White and Adam Hood to raise money for the YMCA.

Until next time …

Stay cool!

P.S. Since newsletters are fast becoming the lifeblood for independent artists like myself, I encourage everyone to forward this issue of the Tall Girl Skinny to a friend. If you do, we’ll add you to our Hummingbird Hall of Fame. Yay!

August, 2010

On June 29, I was scheduled to play in the round at the Bluebird Café with Tommy Womack, Peter Cooper, and Will Kimbrough. Since these guys are good friends and Will played lead guitar on my soon-to-be released CD, I was especially looking forward to this event. Then I heard Kimbrough had to bow out. He’d been summoned to do something with Jimmy Buffett. As every musician knows (myself included), a call from Buffett is a call that can’t be ignored.

I awaken to rain. Lots of rain. Damn! I’m thinking. My hair appointment’s at noon. What a waste! My hair looks best in low humidity. High humidity or rain, and it’s Frizz City.
