Marshall Chapman - Big Lonesome

What they’re saying …

Just when you think Marshall Chapman can’t get any better, she cooks up Big Lonesome. A feast for the ears.

A remarkable collection of songs … Big Lonesome might just be Chapman’s masterpiece.

In this soulful, sincere tribute to her “best friend in music, Tim Krekel,” Marshall reminds me how she reminds me of Hank Williams. The songs are heart-breaking and beautiful and exhilarating and absolutely honest. And Mike Utley’s co-production and keyboard and Casey Woods’ mixing and percussion are perfect. There’s not a false note on the album. I believe Marshall truly does, “loves everybody” and it shines through every song.”

Big Lonesome is scary good.

The advance CD has not left the player in my van. Great record!

I just love this record. It’s … like … Marianne Faithful and Willie Nelson had a baby!

Big Lonesome knocked me right on my ass. Marshall has struck gold this time.

Out-of-the-park wonderful. Artful … moving … terrific!

This record kicks ass. Beautifully written and recorded, it’s sad, but not hopeless … like Blood on the Tracks.

Marshall Chapman has a new release out called Big Lonesome. Marshall is one of my musical heroes, and the songs are still pouring out of her. Big Lonesome has a joy-of-living vibe to it, married to the wisdom that life is precious and not to be taken for granted, but seized. Marshall has always grabbed life by the balls and lived it, and she’s not slowing down now. Defiance is even more interesting when you’re defying gravity, and time has not slowed down Marshall Chapman one bit. She has always done it her way, and she always will. These new songs are classic Marshall Chapman and will leave you smiling. Rock on!”

“Going Away Party” made me stop what I was doing and cry.
(Marshall’s best friend from high school)

Chapman’s husky voice and rugged outlaw country vibe push these songs beyond their melancholy roots.

Big Lonesome is so good. I’ve been listening over and over. I know I’m listening to a great songwriter when the Cindy Walker and Hank Sr covers aren’t the best songs on the record! Marshall writes deep, rich truth and also rock & roll poetry that would make Chuck Berry proud.
